RUBY IS HOME!: after 8 days in the hospital, ruby came home yesterday at around 4pm. i just do not have the words.

RUBY IS EATING!: and, oh boy, does she love it! this girl can eat! she had an MRI today but we have not heard the results. every nurse seems to have a different opinion on when lil’ rubes will be coming home but we remain optimistic that it will be soon. she likes to smile in her sleep and when i was there feeding her with nana, she actually laughed! i didn’t think babies her age could do that but it was quite clear. no one can tell ruby what she can or cannot do. she makes up her own rules. and we love her dearly…

WE GOT TO HOLD HER TODAY: ruby is off the cooling blanket and not shivering so much now! when steph and i walked in this afternoon, she was laying on her side with her eyes wide open just waiting for us! the nurse had removed the somewhat scary IV from ruby’s head (!) so this was the first time we could see all of her beautiful head and face. and then the nurse said we could hold her! i have been on the verge of a total crying breakdown since monday and it finally came…(i almost lost it looking at baby girl clothes at jcpenny with my mom earlier…)
tomorrow, we get to feed her and hopefully sunday, we can bring her home.
i do not use this term lightly but RUBY truly is a MIRACLE…

RUBY DAY 2 AND 3: ruby’s color is looking good and we can now see her entire face and head! (look at all that hair!) she opened her eyes and looked at us for a little while and we got to sort-of pick her up. she gets off the cooling pad tomorrow and will be starting to warm back up. (so shivery!) more tests to follow to make sure everything is ok. everyone at the hospital is very optimistic. stephanie is getting discharged today. (yay!)

THE BEAUTIFUL MISS RUBY SANANIKONE: Born at 6:37am Monday May 21st. 7 pounds 8 oz, 21 inches long. She is in the NICU for now due to her crazy delivery (not something i want to share with everyone—-hit me up for details if you are curious) but she is doing great! She is a warrior much like her mom and brother. We are anxious to hold her and to take her home when she is ready!

BATMAN/BOBA FETT MASH-UP: for a secret commission. this piece was a lot harder than expected. actually did some research, went through multiple sketches, and still the blank canvas taunted me for a while. maybe i am a better cartoonist of funny animals than an illustrator of specific ideas?
i do like how it turned out, though. what do you guys think?
